Angela Chang
Flower in the Wonderland (Meng Li Hua)
This is the 4th album from Taiwanese born singer Angela Zhang. Her music career started in 2004 when she released 2 albums in the space of one year. Now at the age of 25, Flower in the Wonderland is the follow on to her album Pandora which was released at the beginning of last year (2006). Nowadays she’s still one of the most popular female singers in Taiwan so much was expected of this album when it was first released.
梦里花（Flower in the Wonderland）is a beautiful song which starts off the album nicely sung in classical Angela ballad style. The lyrics are very deep and meaningful and she puts much emotion into this song. It also doesn’t contain many of her piercing high notes which normally will put me off some of her songs.
After listening to the first song I was looking forward to hearing what else she had to offer. The second song不痛 (doesn’t hurt) has a very long beginning which lasts for 30seconds at least. This song she sang for the Korean drama “Which star are you from”. Not much structure to this song, a lot of instrumental breaks and a very repetitive melody line. Halfway through this song I had given up already.
C大调 ( C major) started off with a very playful piano melody. Even though it sounds very childish the main melody line will stick in your head after listening to it even just once. A simple piano melody and violin accompaniment turned this song into a repetitive one to a very ‘cute’ and bubbly song; it suited her voice very well.
样子 (appearance) I took as Angela trying ‘something new’. She moved far far away from her ballad theme to a more upbeat r ‘n b song. Again this song failed to impress me, it had a good rhythm going but I can’t hear anything special and her voice is simply too high in the middle sections to turn this song around.
幻想爱 (Imagining love) and交换 (Exchange), 其实很爱你(Actually really love you) and 泪光 (Tears) are more very nice ballads that she sings. 泪光 (Tears) I think will be a successful karaoke song in times to come. It doesn’t strain the voice much and a nice melody, reminds me a lot of the song隐形的翅膀 (invisible wings) from her Pandora album.
给你给我(Give to you, give tome) begins with a very jaunty little tune and is another attempt by Angela at the more upbeat song. This one I thought was more successfully done than样子 (appearance). The lyrics are more interesting and her singing doesn’t sound as forced. I found myself surprisingly bopping to this song halfway through
爱上爱的味道 (The taste of falling in love with love) is one of the last songs in the album and I found this song quite hard to review. Its starts off very high and sounds like a 10year old singing in a childish voice. By the end I could still hear the shrillness of her voice in my head but I found the simplicity of the lyrics enjoyful. I especially liked the name of the song and could see it as a children’s song (if slowed down a little :P) because quite a lot of people would not be able to reach that high when singing easily.
寻宝 (Treasure hunt) is a lively song with a good mixture of exciting lyrics and good melody. This song is very ‘summery’ and sounds to me quite suitable for the being in a chewing gum commercial :P

i think track 2 “bu tong” is a pretty nice song, liked it after listening it for the first time, especially the chorus part~ my other favorites are track 1,3,5,8,9,11. all the songs in this album are enjoyable..this album is better than i expected!

I actually really like Bu Tong, much more than Meng Li Hua. My favorite is actually Jiao Huan, which no one except me seems to care about enough to single out.

Bu Tong is the hit song - it doesn’t sound that good, though - I agree.
Haha - after reading this my review looks like it was done by an eight-year old. Whatever.
To anyone: all the songs in this album are the kind where if you listen to them a few times, you’ll like them. Just a thought.
