Hi Everyone,

I am a 28 year old guy residing in the sunny island Singapore. Listening to music is one of my favorite past-times and I have been listening to Chinese music since the longest of time. Prior to this, I have been toying with the idea to set up a blog to share some of my musical thoughts as well as CD reviews with fellow music lovers. By a twist of fate, I chanced upon this website and am impressed by how the passion for music united all the fellow contributors and readers from all around the world.

I’m fortunate to say that our multi-cultural environment allows one to be exposed to music from different genres as well as appreciate different music elements. My taste in Chinese music is relatively varied and I can related equally well to oldies, contemporary pop, alternative, folk as well as indie music makers. To me, a good song is one with a set of good lyrics, unique music scores, adequate deliverance from the singer as well as something that calls out to the heart.

I remember my first Chinese music tape (yeah, I straddle across the eras where tape are the norm) being the Chu Jia (Wedding) album by Stellar Zhang Qing Fang. I was drawn to her high octaves and am in awe of how she can reach all he right notes without faltering. Till today, Stella remains as a singer who I admire.

Some of the singers that I like include, Taiwanese songbird Chyi Yu, Faye Wong, Gary Cao Ge, Eason Chan, David Tao, Karen Mok, Ah Mei etc.

Another group of artists that I am partial to are less main stream singers such as Summer Lei, Faith Yang, Sandee Chen Shan Ni, Chet Lam, Mavis Fan and Zhi Ruan Juan (C’est la Vie). I admire these indie singers/ song-writers for the free spirit in creating music with their unique style and not be boxed in by the cookie cutter kind of commercial pop songs that sells. Although their music might not be as radio friendly as most of the pop songs, this does not discount the fact that they are credible song writers and singers in their own right.

Now that I’m part of the Chinese Music Blog family, I will aim to covering reviews on CDs off the beaten track as well as share this passion for good music with other Chinese music lovers. Do feel free to give me any feedback or comments on my reviews as well as anything with regards to music in general.
