Silk Road of Love
Fish Leong collaborates with many different singer-songwriters in this album, including one of the most creditable songwriters in Taiwan, Lee Hom who composed the title song “Silk Road”.
I don’t really like the title song “Silk Road” when I first heard it. After a few times listening to it carefully, the song really gets to me. I feel like I’m wandering in Silk Road, the never-ending mass desert. Fish’s rendition is flawless. But I still think there should be more background vocal and contra vocal towards the end, not only the last chorus. The arrangement can be made to sound grander. My favorite song in the album, “I Still Remember” is written by the composer who wrote “If There Is One Day” (Ru Guo You Yi Tian) in Fish’s sophomore album. If you like that song, you’ll certainly love this as well. It shows her powerful voice and her vocal range. A nice but not easy song to sing in karaoke.
Don’t be mistaken that “Lean” is a song for sliming center’s commercial. It’s about the concept of “lean love” brought up by the producers. ‘Eighty percent of happiness is enough.’ This song is cute, naturally cute, unlike some “fake cuteness” in Taiwan or Japan. Fish’s voice is sweet but not over. It reminds me of one of her earlier songs “Loving You Is Not Only Two Three Days” (Ai Ni Bu Shi Liang San Tian). “Sadly, It’s Not You” is the theme song of Korean Series “Sad Love Story”. Fish sings it perfectly. I absolutely love her vibrato at the end of each phrase.
Other songs worth mentioned are “Road” written by JS, “One To One” by Tanya, rockish “Next Second” and slow ballad “Because I’d Still”.
Fish Leong is no doubt one of the best female vocal in the industry and her vocal has improved a lot since her first album. This small town girl ain’t getting Golden Music Award’s Best Female Singer for nothing.

When I first listened to the album, didn’t really “feel” the album was special. But after listening a few times, a lot of the songs are starting to get to me. Your recommended tracks’re my fave songs too :) current fave of the lot is Song 2.

I was underwhelmed when I listened to this CD the first time, but after 20 or so listens now, I like it more. My favourite song is #7.
I still think her previous albums are better efforts, but this is still quite good.

I’m a great fan of Fish, but I wasn’t that fascinated by this album when I listened to it for the 1st few times, but now I tink some tunes are starting to ring in my head (^o^) But I think I somehow agree with Jeff’s view that her previous albums are better, but still quite good.
For me I guess the album tat left the long-lasting impact on me was her “Wei Wo Hao” album, really loved it!
My favourite lyrics is from track #3. :) I would also recommend track #8, think it’s a new attempt to sing differently for Fish. Good try! Must listen to it more then you will start to like it. :)

Though many fans out there said this album is not as good as albums before,but ….i love this album the most.There are many my favourite songs in the album,like the title song “silk road “.I think she has performed this song very well,i think should be good enough for her to win the best female vocal in the “golden melody award” next year.If people say they don’t like the song,probably they don’t understand the meaning of the song,but after they have listened several times,they will like it.This is the best album of fish leong.

Hmmm…mixed reviews huh? Maybe I should check it out myself and find out. For those who said her previous albums are better, which one would you recommmend for a first timer like me? The only exposure I have of Fish Leong is from the “Love Contract” OST. I don’t dig her “Zhong Dian”, but like her other songs in that album. Thanks in advance!

Almost all her songs are nice and touching.

by the way, i have the korean ost for “sad love story” or “sad sonata.” i absolutely love it, especially since my favorite korean actor, song seung heon, sings two of the songs. that’s why i was super excited to check out fish’s album (i had previously checked out her “si lu” song. what can i say? leehom, just love him!)
“sadly, it’s not you” is not on the korean ost at all. i don’t remember it on the series either. so i am confused, especially since there is even an insert which says it’s from the show. it’s still a good song, but it is not on the ost. too bad; i was really looking forward to a mandarin version of one of those great songs. (the ost is VERY good)
i bought silk road yesterday. overall, the songs are pretty good, but i think i have to listen to them more to absolutely love them. i already love “si lu.” i love the arrangement. leehom did a really good job on that. the lyrics are also very nice, written by a-xin, from mayday.

Well, the title of the series is definitely NOT misleading…it is very sad…and very well acted:) Now that I have heard Jasmine’s cd many times, I really like it. However, that song is definitely NOT the theme song of the show…In fact, I have never heard it before getting her cd. Even so, that song is now one of my favorites.
