Hola everyone! What do you guys all think of Anson Hu, who sang the famous "Waiting for You?" I came across his new album 音乐密码 on www.6621.com. Oddly enough, I couldn't find this album on www.yesasia.com. It supposedly came out on Feb 24, 2006. Also, there are only five tracks . . . so maybe it's not exact;y an album. I loved the fourth song 葬英雄. It sounds so familiar to me, but I can't place it. From what I found on the internet (which isn't much since I searched only in english) is that Anson Hu is an artist from China who isn't as handsome as his fellow contemporaries (which shouldn't matter . . . it's all about talent). So any info you know about this artist or the song would be awesome. Thanks!

Hey Christine,
The version of 音乐密码/Music Code you listened to isn't actually an official album, but more like a demo release. (Edit: His third album, Music Code, will be released on March 21, 2006.) Anson has released two albums before this one, the first in 2004 (Music混合體) and the second in 2005 (超時空愛情).
Anson Hu, who was born in Beijing, is currently 22 years old. If you would like to see pictures of him, you can visit the photo section of his official site. Here are three pictures of him:

The first song I heard by him, and my favorite, is Qing Bu Zi Jin. I like his voice, but I heard he was accused of plagiarism. Not sure about that though.

Overall he's not that bad. He's definitely different though. Some of his songs caught my attention the first time around. The others I had to listent to a few times before I was able to enjoy it more. His demo has potential, but I doubt it's going to be anything like Lin Jun Jie's Cao Cao- which is phenomenal.

maybe this is not the place to say it, but if you say that his music hasn't gone anywhere close to JJ's Haven, I would agree. Cao Cao sounded rather rushed and relatively.... careless to me.

I know what you mean about Cao Cao sounding a bit rushed. JJ Lin's Haven seems to have been put much better together. But I would take any of JJ Lin's album over any of Anson Hu's album (I hope that no one will take offense to this).

and i hope no one takes offense on this too much, but JJ's composition sounds like he's trying too hard to jump on the Jay bandwagon (sometimes getting it right and sometimes getting it horribly wrong), whereas Anson isnt (although he sometimes get it right and sometimes get it horribly wrong, too).

Well Anson is jumping on the other side of mainstream music, which is equally homogenous. It's leaning closer to the kpop style than the Taiwan, Jay-dominated style. Looking at it from a broader perspective, Anson is hardly innovative but I have yet to hear anything that I can safely say is similar but equally good as "Jiang Nan"

I've heard a couple of his songs.
It's not that unique, his songs are mostly mainstream R&B.
But he's really talented and he has a very nice voice. ![]()

Ahhhh i was just ranting about him on my blog xD.
I like his first track, Huang Di (King)... It's very interesting. His album comes with a VCD that contains 2 mvs and a 'making of album' clip. And he shows us the five different demos of Huang Di... It was really interesting to watch how he evolved the song into it's final release ^^.
Track 2 is a slow love song... it didn't hit me as that great... but i guess it's something mainstream would like.
03- San Dui San (3 against 3)- Is a rockish number, it almost in some parts makes me think of a song from Justin Timberlake Justified album.
07- Hu Die (Butterfly)- Is kinda nice, it has 'chinese feel' to it with the 'gu qing' in the background
08- Yuan Wang (Wish)- Has a mellow feel with the chinese flute to acompany it.
I also like track 06- Tian Ruo You Qing- it just has this funky beat to it... ahah and so i like it xD.
Those are the ones that caught me at first listen... I also noticed that he did a lot more variety of styles in this ablum then in his previous. Usually he sticks to one style within an ablum (ie just rock or just R&B) but in this one, it's an interesting blend of both ^^.

i thought he was born in Shanghai because when Anson made his debut three years back, the DJs introduced him as a new singer from Shanghai. Even he himself said that he is from there during interviews.
p/s: this album is in my pending list for review.

Anson's new cd is awesome! It's very catchy. Maybe it'll be one of those cd's that I'll lose interest in after listening to for a few days . . . but for now, I'm really enjoying it! I would have to say that track 6 has a phenomenal and kind of funky aspect to it. It'll make you want to get up and have a dance party! As for the rest . . . they're awesome too. This cd covers a wide range of taste- from r & b to rock to some softer rock. It's definitely good stuff, so check it out!

it always a rare jewel to an artist that breaks the mainstream style of anywhere (korean, japanese, tw, mandarin, etc) and can do it very well.
but personally, I don't mind it too too much if an artist borrows a bit from here and there....if they can pull it off, that is When I first listened to Anson Hu, I was struck by a similarity to Se7en's R&B style and then by some of Wang Lee Hom (the Heroes of the Earth album)....and now looking back, I can see the Jay Chou-ness.
the album's not bad tho'...overall I enjoyed it more than Wang Lee Hom's Heroes of the Earth album, which had a 1 or 2 good songs but was overall too wannabe kpop, and badly.

I've found one of the songs he copied. I can't believe Qing Bu Zi Jin isn't his own creation ;_; Parts of Avril Lavigne - "Who Knows" were plagiarized. The guitar in the background is like a carbon copy, along with a few lines of vocals.
Totally lost a lot of respect for him because of that. And damn it, Qing Bu Zi Jin really was my favorite song.

ouch plaigarism? *puts anson on boycott list*

Is "Qing Bu Zi Jin/情不自禁" from his latest album, Music Code? I can't seem to find it in the track listing of that album.
Thanks,

Qing Bu Zi Jin/ 情不自禁 is actually from his album called Music Mixture/ 混合体. This same album also features Waiting for You.
