Janice Wei Lan
My Love
What I can say about Janice Wei Lan’s voice is outstanding. She has the power to hit the high notes and yet does not crack her voice. I seldom take a liking on slow-motion songs but Janice made me hooked with her 十个他不如你一个 (Sap Go Ta But Yu Nei Yat Go). Just a simple description: It blends with her voice well. This is the first song that made me noticed her. It is definitely the best track throughout the album.
Track three, 今夜你不会来 (Gam Ye Nei But Wui Loi) gives me a unique feel which I do not even know how to describe it. The tempo is fast-beat but the way Janice brings it out is so calming. This is another recommendable song.
Having to grow up in overseas, Janice also decided to include some English songs in this album namely Goodbye and Never Let You Go. In my opinion, Goodbye does not suit her voice. The music flow is simply too sweet for her a-little-of-hoarse-in-it voice (Sorry, I could not find any suitable words to describe her voice at the moment. So I decided to make up my own phrase).
Whereas for Never Let You Go, which is the English version of 大哥, if you listen carefully, you will find that some part of the lyrics does not goes well with the chorus. Try to compare “If you gave me one more chance to tell you how I was feeling” with “我要爱情不需要登对不需得你允许” (Ngo Yiu Oi Ching But Sui Yiu Dang Dui But Sui Dak Nei Wan Hui) the ‘was’ is stressed a bit longer and it just feels not right for the perfect music flow.
Track seven, My Love My Fate will ship the listener into a fantasy romantic world. Her soothing voice brings out the flow of the music perfectly. I was totally captivated by both the music flow and Janice’s voice.
Here comes my favorite track – 大哥 (Dai Go)! For this song, Janice hit the right notes with her ever-so-soothing voice. As a result of this song, I was down with the 大哥 (Dai Go) ‘virus’ for a month. This song kept repeating and repeating in my PC.
Ninth track, 我想爱就爱 (Ngo Seung Oi Jau Oi), is the one and only fast tempo song in the album. However, her voice seemed to be buried under the music. Personally, I do not prefer her singing fast song but I can see that there’s good effort she put in.
Overall, Janice is definitely 2005 / 2006 notable newcomer that received enough of publicity thus far. It’s a no wonder that the Hong Kong entertainment big bosses have high hopes on her. Before Janice, I can’t seem to find another Hong Kong female singer that has the potential to make it big and long-lasting in the music industry after Joey Yung.

it’s weird how the only heard of her’s is 大哥 (da ge- big brother) and i go love this song even though i don’t understand half of it (even with the lyrics). i will try and get my hands on her complete album now

I wasn’t impressed when I first heard the song “Dai Go”. After a few listen, I really like her voice.
She can goes until very high notes and she doesn’t have pitching problem at all.
I agree with you in “Never Let You Go”, the “was” is a bit weird. THe one word is taking two notes. And where is the word “more”? Did she sing it?
Tanti: I think the photo doesn’t really look like the real person. She looks nothing like Sammi Cheng.

Janice!!! She really is a very talented singer.. I like all her 22 song from her 2 album.. All of her song seem so nice and i keep repeating it so many time.. Her song dai go i most probaly heard over 1000 time d but i still cant get enough of it.. Its just so nice!!!
