With A Boy Like You
After Stephy, Kary is another member from Mini Cookies (later version of Cookies) that released her solo album. When the girl band was dismissed, Kary teamed up with 3 musicians (2 of them are Mark Lui’s brothers) and became the lead singer of the band called Ping Pung. Their song “爱是最大权利 Ngoi See Jui Dai Kuen Lik / Love Is The Biggest Right” is a hit! If you have no idea about the song, you might have heard the chorus of the song in Leo Ku’s “劲歌金曲 Geng Go Kam Kook / Gold Songs”. And now, there’s her solol album, With A Boy Like You.
As in Ping Pung, Kary opts to sing rock in her debut album. It’s a bit deceiving though because the first two tracks are rock numbers, then the others are C-pops and ballads.
The album starts with an electronic rock song – “With A Boy Like You”. The song is wholely in English and it’s a nice effort but somehow the song doesn’t work for me. There’s too much electronic sound. I prefer the second track, another rock song much more than the first track.
Third track, “句句我爱你 Goi Goi Ngo Ngoi Nei” is a pop song that suits Kary perfectly. The melody is catchy and relaxing. The lyrics is all about the feelings of a teenage girl, and yeah, Kary is only 19 years old!
The ballads are not bad too. I’ll recommend track 4 and track 7. Track 7 is a Cantonese version of the song “手放开 Shou Fang Kai” by 李圣杰 / Li Sheng Jie. It’s interesting to listen to a female version.
I won’t consider this as a great album. It’s just nice and it makes me expect more from Kary. This album proves that Kary not only can sing pop songs, but also rock and maybe other genres. Only that I wish she can improve more on her live singing.

eh??? i thought this is a mandarin album of hers so i dont pay much attention to it as i dunt really like HK singers singing mandarin songs.
good! since it’s a cantonese album, i think i’ll try to get my hands on it. afterall, kary is one of my fave singers. ;)

No, it’s a pretty good Cantonese album with one English song and two Mandarin songs. I agree with ya, I prefer HK singers singing Cantonese songs much more than they singing Mandarin songs. For example when Twins’s songs are being re-made into Mandarin songs, they just lost their colors.
Just curious, what makes you think that it’s a Mandarin album?

because i heard that she is known as 吴雨霏 in Taiwan. so i assume that this is a Mandarin album. hehe…
i agree to wif u. i hate twins singing in mandarin. everytime i heard their mandarin songs over the radio, it gives me sorta creeps under the skin. as if something is crawling underneath. scarryy…. ^.^

i suggest Kary should definetly practice more in live singing, she lost key when she just “WALK”, can’t even bare the steps!it’s a shame that her voice sounds very good in CD, and she seems the new girl with best voice of the rest from cookies.and, everybody rate her with very high grade that’s why catch my attention but however, this makes me feel even worst when heard her live vocal…..
be a real singer, seems still got loooooooooong way to walk !frame is illusion….go paractice more.
