Contended (zhi zhu)
I admit that this review comes a bit late. At least it’s still uploaded before Mayday have their concert here in January. All Mayday fans out there, better get yourselves familiar with all mayday classics before you get into the stadium and have a great time with them.
This album comprises of four new songs and all their previous classic songs. The main hit song, “contended”(zhi zhu) 知足is a long awaited slow tempo song. I remembered when I first heard this song, I couldn’t figure out that’s Ah Xin’s voice. However I fall in love with this song after repeatedly listening to it for quite some time. Their slow tempo song is always a surprise and you can listen to it over and over without felling bored. It’s unlike most of the popular songs released nowadays. Their last slow tempo song from them that I can remember is “embrace”(yong bao) 拥抱. This is always my favorite song at all time.
Their second hit song in this album, ”mandibular joint”(ya guan) 牙关is a classic mayday tune. Together with Ah Xin’s cry out-style of singing, this is probably one of the rock song you should not missed. The other two newly released song “turbulent days”(luan shi fu sheng) 乱世浮生 and “LOVE-ing”(lian ai-ing) 恋爱ing continued the same mayday style we have always been anticipating. The compiling of these songs are great with all the musical instrument giving out a very lively and relaxed feeling. These songs can always cheer you up whenever you feel depress. Just find a day when there is nobody at home and you can blast these songs at maximum volume.
Some old classic songs included in this album that you should not miss are “Can’t hear”(ting bu dao) 听不到 which is a song written to Fish Leong previously. They sang it in their own style and gave out a very different and fresh feeling. “Ending single”(zhong jie gu dan) 终结孤单 is always a perfect song from mayday for encouragement and eternal friendship. “Everything will be alright; tomorrow will be fine…..” This part of chorus will always play in my mind whenever I face any problem in life. “People Life Ocean Wild”(ren sheng hai hai) 人生海海, “unbending”(jue jiang) 倔强，”gentle”(wen rou) 温柔, “ZhiMing and ChunJiao”(zhi ming yu chun jiao) 志明与春娇 are namely some of the greatest hits of mayday at all time.
In short, this is one of the greatest albums from Mayday that you should not miss. Should you haven’t heard of Mayday and did not own any of their album, this is a good chance to get to know them. If you are a Mayday fans all the while and have bought all their previous albums, you are left with no option but to add this album to your CD rack.

Mayday never struck me as a band worth listening to. Their popularity has always been a mystery to me. I’ve tried to get into them but just couldn’t do it. Maybe I should listen to this album and see.

The first time I heard Mayday, and the first time I’ve ever heard OF Mayday, was last week when they played that song “contended”(知足) on MTV. Pretty melodic song. The flute adds a nice touch. Me like!

It’s in 2 CDs right? I love their Zhi Zu and Lian Ai-ing. Zhi Zu’s melody is so touching, and Lian Ai-ing is so fun, bubbly and.. well, fun! :D

Hello there! i googled ‘mayday’ and i found this page! i just wanna say, i knew mayday a bit tad too late, haha, they were in the scene since 1999, well it never got into me, that mayday bug, until 2005, when they came to malaysia abt 3 times !!!! it was one of the LIVE show that mayday had in KL that caught my attention, that they can play LIVE really damn well, thats’ it, that bowled me over, and now, im doing some catch up work of their old songs, and this CD is definitely one good collection, im very happy that u wrote a review here, its just very very satisfying to know that, there’s this chinese band who can make it so big !!. cheers!!

Maybe u guys should consider getting the Singapore version of this album. It has 7 new songs instead of 4! Great stuff!. I’ve been listening to Mayday’s songs for quite some time but it was only after their album ‘God’s children are dancing’ that i became a fan. Truly deserved to be called the “Beatles of Taiwan”. Can’t wait for their new album!

Um, this is NOT the same Christine that posted first here…a different one. I LOVE Mayday. I just recently got into their music (after hearing their “Born To Love” album), so I purchased this “Best of” album and I’m absolutely in love with their musical style and Ashin’s voice.

i’m listening to this CD at the moment. For some reason, the ‘China version’ (yes yes, I was trying to save some pennies) doesn’t contain all the tracks that are listed. Great album all the same…! Ah Xin’s voice gets me every time…! and of course, Mayday wouldn’t be Mayday without the great instrument backing…

If you’ve only gotten into Mayday due to their later albums, you really should get around to listening to their earlier albums when they were more into Hokkien garage rock. Some of their best works are in those early albums.
