Since Claire’s previous hot selling debut album – “I Don’t Want To Forget You” (Wo Bu Xiang Wang Ji Ni) last year, the phenomenal new comer is eager to show more this year. She released her latest album – “The Next Dawn” (Xia Yi Ge Tian Liang) on May 2008.
A brief note about Claire (or, Guo Jing) for those who haven’t heard of her: She’s been called the “Queen of Upcoming Singer”. Her first known song “I Don’t Want To Forget You” become an instant hit among teenagers in school, topping all the 12 charts in Taiwan (which includes the most popular song in Karaoke).
Her voice just captivates me in my first listening. There are a few traces of Penny Tai and Angela Chang influence, but she certainly establish the style of her own – so effortless, pure and yet sweet. No wonder her “pure love” image works so well for her.
The first track “The Next Dawn” (Xia Yi Ge Tian Liang) is almost a guaranteed hit song. I also particularly like track no.6 “Healing Without Medication” (Bu Yao Er Yv) and track no. 8 “Knowing” (Zhi Dao). The amazing thing about Claire and this album is, you never get tired of it (if you know what I’m saying), you’ll listen to her over and over again.
Her latest album proves that she is not a one-hit-wonder. “The Next Dawn”, in my opinion, has outdo her previous album. Claire Guo certainly has a lot to show for in this album, and hopefully (I might be right), this is just a glimpse of her enormous potential.
