Ling (V) started Silver Ash back in 2000, the band enjoyed a minor success over the years, but is currently in a state of uncertain hiatus (break). The band itself has gone through may different members in the past, the most well known of these ex Silver Ash member’s being, Nancy, Hong(Ba), and Lucy (G). The most current member line up as of 2006 is: Ling (V), Zhen (D), Yue (G), Yu(Ba), and White Bird (Keyboardist).

Silver Ash’s style of music ranges from depressing to borderline metal at points, in this particular self titled album, Silver Ash displays their varying range in style. The Album kicks off with the semi fast paced song of Gorgeous Devil and then quickly moves on to a creepy almost Dracula inspired intro for Organum which leads into the slow sorrowful melody that is accompanied by soft piano and medium guitar and drum action.

Some of the more memorable and best tracks off this album ( marked by * below) in my opinion made this band great for American audiences. The song Twins for example, features loud distorted vocals, hard guitars and fast drums; this song about a good and evil twins and their conflict with one another. This song is not only memorable for the dual vocal action, but also the fast hard beat, a song worth jumping around to, and putting on repeat. Another one of my favorite songs is Lunar Eclipse; This song launched Silver Ash onto the music scene, and the video was actually played on American MTV briefly ! This song starts out with a beautiful piano solo and transitions nicely into the rock style of fast guitars, loud drum sets, and Ling’s soft but potent voice.

Over all I give this CD a 4 out of 5. If I had to give this self titled album a down side it would be that in curtain songs Ling’s voice can be drowned out in small locations, but being their first album it definitely appeals to a lot of different types of tastes.
