Music Wave (Ying Lang)
After seeing him won the Best Performing Male Award this year, beating both Lee Hom and Jay, I knew I missed something from this guy. Instead of getting his award winning album, I went out and bought this double CD compilation album for his best work before 2003. And, I became a Stanley’s fans.
This compilation album contains all of his past songs from 1997 to 2003 as well as 4 new songs. Circus Monkey and Scholar (Zhuang Yuen) are his trademark heavy metal hokkien (ming nan yu) rap. His rap skill is so aggresive and powerful that you can hardly find in other chinese artist. His other mentionable rock songs in this album are non stop dancing (bu duan tiao wu), roaming dog (liu lang gou), show me your demons, cold bath (leng shui zhao). Each of this songs “rock” in their own style and show off Stanley’s vocal power.
Among all, I like “my dream lover” (Wo de Meng Zhong Qing Ren). This rap song features a naughty story ( aahem!) about Stanley’s meeting with a “open” and pretty girl whose very good in instrument (Er…). It is so fun to listen with, and the funniest part is “Wang Li Sing, Ni Dao Di Sing Bu Sing” ( Stanley Huang, You can or not??). Well, I will leave the rest to your imagination.
My favourite song,”Beside You” (Ni Shen Bian) ironically is a totally different genre from typical Stanley’s style. It’s a country rock style and a completely different approach by Stanley. It is like a breadth of fresh air in the heavy pressured album and I like it so much.
The best part of the album is probably the duet with female artist. Stanley’s duet with Elva Hsiao in “Let It Go” is perfect. They are the perfect match and their rapping style, vocal, compliments each other and synchronized so well. Another duet song is “Separately Travel” (Fen Kai Lu Xing), which he duets with Rene Liu. Rene Liu is the typical girl next door while Stanley’s image is like the alternative heavy metal underground rap artist (He is!). How could this work, you might ask. But, it works surprisingly well. “Separately Travel” is a remake from a Canada alternative rock song. A beautiful song, I would say, and it’s hard to figure out the story for this song is about a Quarelling Couple (come’on! :P).
This album is a must-have if you do not have any Stanley’s previous album, and a worthy collectible if you already had.

Although Stanley’s rap ability is amazing, I still enjoy his “singing” songs better :)
My favorite would have to be “Fuzzy,” for the 20 something taipei ost ^_^
