The Flowers
Flowered Season Dynasty (Hua Ji Wang Chao)
As much as I hate to admit this, I still have to say that I love this band! Their song might sound unoriginal, but one cannot deny that their music is good and of top quality. 花儿乐队 (Hua Er Yue Dui / The Flowers) is a very popular boyband from Mainland China. They made their debut in year 1998 and had four albums so far. 花季王朝 (Hua Ji Wang Chao / Flowered Season Dynasty) is released in July, last year.
First track, 嘻唰唰 (Xi Shua Shua) has a playful music and the lyric describe love is like a guessing game where one cannot determine its future. Track two, 童话生死恋 (Tong Hua Sheng Si Lian) tells about the ups and downs of love between a prince and princess. Both of the songs received tremendous support from worldwide Chinese radio stations.
The whole package of 你愿意做我女友吗? (Ni Yuan Yi Zuo Wo Nuu You Ma?) has an Indian feel. While next track, 我们能不能不分开 (Wo Men Neng Bu Neng Bu Fen Shou) is so simply sweet!
For those who are looking for the appropriate music to throw a party, track five, 天子第一宠 (Tian Zi Di Yi Chong) is the recommendable one. The melody is cheeky and definitely fun! 吻痕 (Wen Hen) is a slow ballad that provides equal entertainment.
Those who have heard their music before surely know that they did a partial cover on the ‘Numa Numa Song’ in seventh track, 化蝶飞 (Hua Die Fei) that will make you unable to resist but to sing along with the tune… “Ma-ia-hii Ma-ia-huu Ma-ia-hoo Ma-ia-haha”. For some indistinct reasons, this song is the main reason why I am attracted to the whole album.
星囚歌剧 (Xing Qiu Ge Ju) which is my favorite track is a medium ballad supported with rock background. As the title suggested, this track has included a few verses that sounds like a real musical stage drama.
Track eleven, 我去! (Wo Qu!) has a funky element with its half-talked-half-sung lyrics. Last but not least, 好开始 (Hao Kai Shi) is another recommendable one. But isn’t it kind of ironic to arrange this as the last track considering its title? Well, I guess it is just some promotion gimmicks.
In a nutshell, this album is best to be played at parties or during any informal outings. The songs are playful and suitable for people who are seeking for leisure diversion. Nevertheless, they did a fine job on writing the lyrics. This album also comes with a bonus VCD that contains a few MVs and a short film about their homes.

yeah~ this band really rocks…in the past, mayday used to be my only favorite band until hua er came out with their album. “xi shua shua” is just simply too popular nowadays. Even primary school kid is fammiliar wih this song. For me i like “tong hua sheng si lian” and “hua die fei”…..

I thought this band was shallow. Something like blink 182.
But few of their last songs are just great, showing their depth, and their sensitive side. Love it! Hua Er rocks!

Did you guys know this band was blamed for copying others’ songs, and they admitted finally?

Yeah I heard about the plagiarism too. Xi Shua Shua was copied. Anson Hu has also been caught copying other people’s songs too. It seems to happen a lot with mainland China artists, but then again there’s also Toro (of Tai Feng) and his Gackt fiasco.

I read on the net that Tank’s “曙光 Shu Guang” is plagiarized from Mel C’s “Reason”.
Someone even uploaded parts of both songs here too.

i believe some of the claimed “plagarism” are purely coincidence. just think about it, there are millions and millions of songs in this world and how could one possible to be different from each other?
there’s no such thing as original. humans learn by copying each other. so does music.
but then i cant deny tat some songs too arent purely coincidential like Toro and Gackt fiasco. Both of the songs are way too alike.
and Juciena, yes, i’ve read bout it.

I agree, Amber.
Some are just coincidence and some just have the same style or same idea and they are accused of plagiarism.
But the above Tank’s song really surprises me. One will thought it’s a cover of the English song in his/her first listen.

Yes, coincidence is possible, as well as unintentional influence, but all the people I mentioned had songs that were clearly plagiarized. There’s definitely a line that gets crossed sometimes.

No. They don’t deserve ANY SUCCESS AT ALL. Lousy plagarisers. Twelve tracks on an album, and not a single one completely original. People like Flowers are ruining music for everyone.

hey guys! i just got the album (ya im kinda late) but ive loved them ever since i went back to visit mainland last summer. i dont really care if they “copied” from other songs, as long as they make it their own, i think its still original. besides, the playful and catchy songs that they have are too awesome! they are really a breakthrough for mainland music.
