Typhoon
Overflow (Tian Da Di Da)

Typhoon is Jungiery Star’s new group that consists of three . Their Japanese rock band like image made them the first in Taiwan that leads the 华丽遥滚 (Gorgeous Rock Style). Toro as their leader is known as the 强烈台风: Strong Typhoon. 小村 (Xiao Cun), the eldest yet looked the youngest is the 轻度台风: Gentle Typhoon while 达伦 (Darren) is 中度台风: Mild Typhoon.

天大地大 (Tian Da Di Da) is mark as Toro rebirth after his departure from his previous hip-hop group, Energy. Therefore J-Stars put a lot of emphasis on him instead of the other two members. This album had included some of his own composed songs and lyrics.

First track, 天大地大 (Overflow) is a combination of rock and dance. While the main single, 撒哈拉沙漠 (Desert Sahara) does bring out the desert feel with winds blowing at the beginning of the song and please do check out their MV for their dance is superbly choreographed. It’s the best song in the whole album.

Track three is 月光天堂 (Moonlight Heaven) with its funky beat. I love the chorus especially. The most ironic track is the fourth one with its title 台风 (Typhoon). Because, to me the word 台风 should be very energetic but this is a medium R&B style song.

Another fast tempo is track five, 狂爱战队 (Crazy Love War-ally). This is Toro’s own creation and the lyrics are so creative. The dance moves are strong and powerful and not to mention awesome choreography too.

Typhoon’s duet with Lala, 破浪号 (Breakwave), gives a sense of happiness and warmth as if I can feel the sunshine. 神枪手 (Sniper) is a bit messy with the arrangements but this is what I like about it. The sound effects are nice.

西风的话 (Westwind’s Whisper) is just so sad. I mean, it really brings out the sad feeling. The best sound effects I shall give to 吸血鬼 (Vampire) for its appropriate creepy sounds – e.g.: door creaking and child crying. This song started in a slow pace (THINK: suspense) and gets more rock after that (THINK: climax). It does bring out the mysterious feel and kudos to Toro too!

The last track 伤心的石头 (Sadstone) is another ballad that deserves attention although it does not play any great impact on me.

  1. The first word that comes to mind is: poser. I seriously don’t trust any groups from J Star. They all seem like a bunch of “pretty” faces and no talent. The guys of Typhoon have the look of jrockers/goths/vampire dudes or something, but what else? Still sounds like pop to me. Maybe I’m judging too quickly, but this seems like another way for some company to make a bunch of money off of girls’ fantasies.

  2. Welcome to da club, Amber! :)

  3. No, Christine, you’re not judging too quick. From their appearances on TV, you’re right.

  4. That said, I haven’t heard them sing yet….

  5. typhoon n k one relly rawks!!! we, fans must really thank them 4 the hard work[their album’s songs r great!!]

I find it rather sad that for his ‘comeback’ that Toro couldn’t have been more crative if Track 5 was suppose to be his own works.

Engery was much frowned upon for their ‘covers’ and such, you’d think Toro would at least try to stay away from such things. BUT… track 5 sounds way too suspiciously like Jrocker, Gackts Vanilla.

  7. Vivi

I agree Aly. Number 5 sounds a LOT like Gackt’s Vanilla, but other than that, its a nice abum.

After some self-done research on some websites, Track 5 狂爱战队 is inspired from Gackt’s Vanilla. I’ve yet to listen to Gackt’s, so I’ll still assume that this is originally Toro’s creation.

  9. Aly

Well, Gackt’s Vanilla was released in 1999… So there is no way it’s orginally Toro’s cration .-..

You can hear Gackt’s Vanilla here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=cooWjhjXvsE

And someone duel-dubbed the accoustic of Vanilla over Typhoons’s version and it’s pretty much an exact match. You can take a look here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=qoR2zX6nLBU

  10. yeah… i saw the music video in youtube last week. both songs sounded very similar. i was quite dissappointed with Toro actually. :(

  11. karma

Well, does the album lyrics credit the song to Gackt or to Toro? A lot of chinese artists do cover songs. I think Nicholas Tse did a cover of “Mirror.”

  12. karma

oh, my bad. the 2nd youtube summary explains everything. huh.

  13. mimiko

I don’t think Track 5 is Toro’s creation. If he claimed that it’s his own creation. He such a loser for copying other people song! And his acting is suck! This guy has no talent at all, just a pretty face doll.

  14. lavender rain

Well, I think that when Toro said he created this songs, I think he meant he wrote THE LYRICS—NOT the music! xD Also, I heard that it’s not his fault; the person mixing the musics, copied off of Gackt…

Still, I really LOVE LOVE Toro and I don’t care what you guys say about him–and this CD is really realy goood too!! =) Though, I am SAD that Toro left Energy!! >____

  15. omocha

Oh my god! He plagiarized VANILLA. And anybody who says that the songs are nothing alike, or tries to defend this, is obviously tone deaf.

And Nic Tse covered Gackt’s “Oasis”, not very well though.

Why can’t people at least *attempt* to be creative these days?

  16. i tink tat typhoon rock! expecially toro he so cool their funky looks look attractive and new to mii … support them always…junn…typhoon always rock…!!!

  17. K

What I didn’t like was, he apparently didn’t have the decency to admit that he plagarized or credit Gackt for inspiration.

  18. Amy

I don’t know Toro or his band so I can give a good judgement. Either way, love him or not, he copied off of Gackt. The lyrics may have been Toro’s, they weren’t even that good…, but it was GACKT’S MUSIC! Toro should take off this track because he did NOT ask Gackt nor GacktJOB for the music. No questions. Goodbye. The end.

  19. hotflower

toro is the best! who cares if he cpoie other people’s song. at leats he made his own version out of with……

  20. 1lemon

i’m a true fan of Toro, so i dont care what others say about him. however i like him more in energy than typhoon.

  21. hotflower

my bad about all those mistakes….^_0 toro is the best! who cares if he copied other people’s song. at least he made his own version out of it……and it doesn’t matter, cause it’s not only him who copy. Many artist out there do the same too.

  22. hana-chan~

even if toro claims he wrote the lyrics and not necessarily claiming he wrote the music. doesn’t matter who was the one originally copying gackt’s vanilla… if that track 5 is to exist…. there MUST be some sort of credit somewhr to gackt…. or else SHAME on TYPHOON

  23. May

He told the mass media that it was his own composition 2 months ago…so unless someone updates me on whether he did credit Gackt or not…if not i am gonna believe that he’s juz another thief who steal other ppl works and claim it as he own…because i think this is juz too much!Besides, i dun consider it as “own version” because obviously the instrumental intro was a copy and paste work.

  24. hoshi_chan

shame on toro…fancy taking somebody else’s work and claimed as his own!does this means that artists can plagraised?

i have not listen to his song and i don’t plan to listen to it anyway, but plagraism was a serious offence…if he wants to have that song in his album,he should at least make the effort by crediting the music to gackt and not taking the music and claimed it as his own…maybe the lyric is written by him but obviously the music is not…

  25. munna

omg…taking somebody else’s song and claimed it as his own without a single credit to gackt?

to those who support toro fans, copied means copied.do you think that it’s alright for you to copy for exams?that applies to this music.copied means copied, there’s no any other excuses like other singer has also copied…

it’s either toro credits gackt or not.but even if he credits gackt,he is still a poser!烂人一个!

  26. Sky

“Track 5 狂爱战队 is inspired from Gackt’s Vanilla.”
INSPIRED huh?? so.. i copy my fren’s hmwk, n i tell my tcher “nay, i didnt copy. my work is soo000ooo supiciously similar to her’s coz her work INSPIRED ME”

“when Toro said he created this songs, I think he meant he wrote THE LYRICS—NOT the music! ”
if tts so, the 词 credit toro but AT LEAST 曲 credit gackt?!

“I don’t care what you guys say about him”
“who cares if he cpoie other people’s song”
“i’m a true fan of Toro, so i dont care what others say about him”
so actually, u fangirls only like his face, and not whether he really has the “Stuffs” and “intelligience” to even CREATE a simple song. kakkoi neh?~

“it’s not only him who copy. Many artist out there do the same too. ”
but AT LEAST they had the decency n dignity to credit back to the original person?!

  27. Cookie

    WOW people
and i thought this was a nice, sweet blog that supports all the hard work of singers that provide music to keep music fanatics alive and breathing….

NO ONE can ever be exactly sure what really went on when Toro wrote (or for anti-fans who might gun me down, “copied” from Gackt) that song, so I don’t think anyone has the right to criticize Toro. Unless, of course, you happened to be THERE when he wrote/copied the song…*raises eyebrows*

To Sky: You say that fangirls only like his face? Well i have not even SEEN his face in my entire life (though i plan on google-ing him after i finish writing this thing) so I’m sorry to say that you are just stereotyping his fans…I admit some of his lyrics are not the most creative on earth, but he’s a pop/rock singer…most pop/rock singers aren’t. If you are so against his lyrics, why don’t you go a become an intelligent singer and create your own simple songs? Then i wouldn’t be able to complain…

  28. Haido

I don’t know Toro personally, nor do I listen to his music. However, I happened to come across the video in which he plagiarized Gackt’s song and I was extremely embarrassed, for Toro that is. I mean, Gackt is a very talented, popular, Japanese Rock musician. Did he, or whoever copied the instrumentals, honestly think that they could get away with it? BAKA! If you’re going to be “inspired” by someone, you MUST credit them. Plain and simple. No if’s, and’s, or but’s. Gackt writes and composes each and every one of his songs. I don’t think he’d appreciate it very much if someone took his hardwork, supposedly “made it their own,” and did not give him credit. That’s absolutely ridiculous!

To all you fangirls that think it’s ok for artists to steal each other’s music, you are all wrong. It is not ok, just as it is not ok for you to cheat on an exam or download music illegally. How would you feel if you spent months working hard on something, only for someone to steal it and not give you credit? You would be upset too, right? Either way you look at it, it is wrong.

To Cookie: everyone is entitled to their opinion as to why they like/dislike a musician’s lyrics. As an artist, he has chosen to put himself out there, thus he is susceptible to criticism. Also, us “fanatics” appreciate music that is of the artists own creation. That is what we support. We do not, or at least I don’t, support music that is a cheap imitation of another artist’s work. Also, there is a difference between being “inspired” and down right “taking” someone’s music. If Toro was “inspired,” the instrumentals would be similar, not EXACTLY the same. That is the fine line between inspiration and plagiarism. And whether or not we were there when Toro wrote/copied the song is irrelevant. The evidence speaks for itself and Toro is held responsible because his name is on that song and he was part of the group that stole the instrumentals, regardless of whether or not he was the ACTUAL person that stole it.

There, that’s my two cents. Peace.
