Zhou Chuan Xiong has being in the music scene since 1989, widely known as “Xiao Gang” (小刚). He was one of the fastest growing popularity artist that time. All of the sudden, he hit the rock bottom at 1997 when he about to give up music. He did not give up, and it was a turning point of his music career. He then composed “Huang Hun” (Twilight, 黄昏）, which made the malaysian singer Nicholas Teo famous in the Astro Talent Quest , 花香 (Flower Fragrance) for Xu Shao Yang (许绍洋), and countless of other popular songs. He went on become the hottest producer and composer in the chinese music industry. They now call him the “Godfather of Love Song”(情歌教父).

“The Legend Under The Starry Sky” contains 7 new songs and 7 other songs that Zhou Chuan Xiong previously composed for other artists. The older songs comes with a familiar yet refreshing feel, such as “Existence” (Cun Zai), “Start Out Again”(Zai Chu Fa), “Hello” (Ha Lo).
The new song “Under The Starry Sky” ( Xing Kong Xia) represents Zhou’s own love story. So sweet and can be easily trapped into countless of listening. “Cold and Lonely Desert” (Ji Mo Sha Zhou Leng), appears as an unexpected hit, and won many music awards by itself.

Ah, this album came out when I was in Taiwan. For some reason this guy really annoyed me, but then I started to like his singing and his songs. The only songs that I have heard from this album are the music videos you provided haha.

This may not seem a very good place to post this question, but I just went to China and I’m looking for a particular pop song that was playing EVERYWHERE while I was there. Unfortunately, I don’t speak Chinese, and I don’t know the artist or the song name.
The only lyrics I understood were the words “mama!” like a call out from a small child, followed by a deeper voice of a mother or father and the last word is “yue” I think… I have no idea, hope you can help!

Yes I can confirm that the melody of the song Hasayaki is from Slovak folklore song. I am from this county so I know…That rock balladic version is pretty good…
But where did he get that melody????????

This is absolutely WEIRD! The melody of the refrain is taken from A SLOVAK FOLKLORE SONG!!! It´s one of the Slovak most beautiful folklore songs! For those of you, who don´t know, SLOVAKIA is a Slavonic country in the middle of Europe! Thousands miles from Asia…

My friend lives in Helpa. For those, who do not know, the slovak folklore song is named Tota Helpa which means something like “This Helpa” (Helpa is slovak town).
He says: “Some chinese guys are every year at Horehronske dni spevu a tanca (something like Horehronske days of singing and dance), they have tons of great electronics and they smile alot. ”
Sheesh. I could not believed it!! Something is really really great, but no one knows it - and then someone else comes and take it and remake it and make a hit from it! It annoys me. Weirdo.

I have heard that song and it’s obviously a folk song. It is common nowadays for a chinese pop song to use a partial melody from a popular oldies/folk song. The most popular example is Jacky Cheung’s Ni Zhi Bu Zhi Dao, another recent example is Nicholas Teo’s Wo Zhi Zao Hu Ni.
It is not a way to copy, or attempt to remake a hit from it, instead, it is to embrace and praise the folk melody. But that is just my opinion.

By the way, it says that the melody and lyrics of Hasayaki were written by Zhou Chuan Xiong. So, plagiarism or freak coincidence? Or, is that you don’t have to credit folk songs?

Does anyone have a translation of the lyrics for Hasayaki? A friend of mine is Slovakian and she is dying to know what the lyrics say.
Oh, it can’t be plagiarism…if it is an old Slovakian folk song, the melody is probably in the public domain.
